What's a Wafflebox?

A Wafflebox is a 'box' where your friends, family and colleagues can both leave and listen to voice messages. You can display your Wafflebox on your website, blog or social network pages. Your Wafflebox comes with its own unique phone number.

Why would I want one?

Why wouldn't you? It's free! Plus you get your own unique phone number with your Wafflebox. Your friends and family can leave message on your Wafflebox wherever they are, and without access to or any knowledge of the internet. All they need is a phone! Whether it's a birthday recording, a reminder, a joke, or just casual waffle, it always means more to actually hear someone's voice - and with Wafflebox, it couldn't be easier.

Which websites can I put my Wafflebox on?

Glad you asked. You can stick your Wafflebox on just about anything: from social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace, and Tagged, to your personal website or blog. Every message sent to your Wafflebox will appear in your Wafflebox on every page where it's displayed. In this way, Wafflebox transcends social networking platforms.

What's this new Wafflebox?

We've recently introduced a new-look Wafflebox widget! At the moment, the new widget will work with Facebook and any blog or websites. (If you preferred the old widget, there's still the option to use this for blogs and websites.) Changing between the widgets won't in any way affect your waffles.

To start using the new widget now see "How can I upgrade to the new Waffebox widget?"

One of the great things about the new Wafflebox widget is that you and your friends will no longer have to "click to activate" to see it in Facebook!

We'd love to hear what you think about the new-look widget. Pop over to our feedback form (Feedback.aspx) and leave us a message!

What's the difference between the two Waffleboxes?

We've introduced a new-look Wafflebox widget with an updated style, which we hope you enjoy. However, we know that some users will prefer things as they were, so wherever possible we're offering you the choice of either the old or the new Wafflebox!

Changing between the two Waffleboxes will not affect your waffles, it's purely a matter of personal preference - let's say you remove the "old" style Wafflebox from your website, add the new one, and then decide you preferred the old one; you can simply remove the new one and add the old one again. Your waffles will not be affected!

What's the "Private Waffles" setting on the My Account page for?

Simple. If you don't feel like the whole world deserves to hear the messages left in your Wafflebox (perhaps there are top secret plans for world domination in there), simply check this box, then hit "Save". When this option is checked, your waffles won't appear in the Top & Recent waffles lists on the front page of the site, and only you will be able to view them on your Wafflebox Profile Page.

People will still be able to listen to your Waffles via your Wafflebox widget if they have access to the page(s) on which it is displayed. If you want your waffles to be comepletely private - perhaps you're using your Wafflebox as a cheaper version of your answering machine, or a way to access voice messages via a computer - simply remove the Wafflebox widget from every page it's displayed on.

To make your waffles visible to everyone again, simply left click the "Private Waffles" checkbox to uncheck it.

How can I make my Waffles private?

1. Make sure you're logged into Wafflebox.co.uk
2. Left click on the "My Account" button beneath the big Wafflebox logo at the top of the site.
3. In the menu to the left of the page, left click "Settings".
4. In the main window, left click the box adjacent to "Private Waffles".
5. Left click "Save".

That's it! Now your waffles won't appear in the Top & Recent waffles lists on the front page of the site, and only you will be able to view them on your Wafflebox Profile Page.

How do people leave messages on my Wafflebox?

Your Wafflebox comes with a personal, unique phone number. Simply by calling this number, anyone can leave a message on your Wafflebox. The beauty of Wafflebox is that any messages left will appear in your Wafflebox wherever it is displayed.

What's the phone book for? How do I use it?

Your phonebook enables you to store names and phone numbers of your friends, family and colleagues. When someone calls from a number in your phonebook, the name you've added for that number will appear in your Wafflebox instead of the caller's phone number, helping you see who a message is from even before you listen to it.

What are Allowed Numbers? How do I use them?

Allowed numbers do two things.

Firstly, they provide a way for you to change the message that's played when people ring your Wafflebox number. To do this, ring your Wafflebox from a number in your allowed numbers list, then when your current welcome message starts playing, press * on your phone, then follow the prompts and recite a new message. Please note that you must press * WHILE your existing welcome message is playing. If you press * after your existing message has finished, you'll end up leaving a message in your Wafflebox rather than recording a new welcome message!

The second use for Allowed Numbers? If you ring another person's Wafflebox from a number in your Allowed Numbers list, your Wafflebox Profile nickname will appear alongside the message instead of your phone number, making Wafflebox an altogether more enjoyable experience.

N.B. Allowed Numbers are NOT a list of the numbers that are allowed to ring your Wafflebox to leave a voice message. Anyone with your Wafflebox Phone Number can ring from any phone to leave a message on your Wafflebox.

How do I change the message that's played when people ring my Wafflebox Number?

Just go to Allowed Numbers and add your phone or mobile number, then ring your Wafflebox from the number you entered (don't withhold your number!). When you hear your existing message, press * and follow the prompts to record your new message. Make sure you press * before your existing welcome message finishes, otherwise you'll end up just leaving a message in your Wafflebox, d'oh! You can only change your welcome message by ringing your Wafflebox number from a phone number in your Allowed Numbers list.

How much are calls to Waffleboxes?

Calls to Waffleboxes are charged at standard local rates (UK). On the 26th October 2007, calls from a BT landline are are charged at: 2p per minute day time, 0.5p per minute evenings, and 0.5p per minute at weekends. Calls from mobiles or payphones may vary. You must get the bill payer's permission before making a call. (Call charges stated above are subject to change.)

Can I downoad messages in my Wafflebox to my computer?

Yes, but not directly from your Wafflebox itself. To download a recording, first log into this site and then browse to your Profile Page. On your profile, scroll down until you see the 'mywaffles' heading, then click the green 'download' for the message you'd like to download. Messages are downloaded in mp3 format.

I can't find an answer to my question, what should I do?

If you're still having trouble, or if you just want to tell us what you think of Wafflebox, please send us a message using our Feedback Form. Wafflebox is currently in the public beta, and we'd love to hear from you about your experiences with the service.

What if I'm moving to a different social network?

Don't worry, all your waffles are stored in your Wafflebox independently of the social network(s) you choose to display it on. To put your Wafflebox on a new site, make sure you're logged in, then go to your Profile Page , and look under "wafflecode". Then select your new social network from the drop-down list, and we'll show you how to put your Wafflebox on your new page. And remember, all your waffles will still be there!

If I remove my Wafflebox from a website, will I lose all my waffles?

Nope, all your Waffles are stored on our main site, you can add/remove your Wafflebox from any website without affecting your recordings.

How do I upload a photo to my profile?

Make sure you're logged in, then browse to your Profile Page, and click on the green [Edit] button just above your current picture. Left click "Browse" and choose the picture you want as your profile pic from any location on your computer. Finally, select upload, shout 'hey presto', and you're done! Your new picture should appear on your profile.

N.B. Make sure your photo is in a valid format (JPEG, PNG, or GIF) and no bigger than 2mb in size.

How do I change my profile details?

First make sure you're logged into this site, then browse to your Profile Page, and click the green [edit] button next to the details you want to change.

N.B. Your birth date should be in the format DD/MM/YYYY, e.g. 25/12/2007.

How do I change my other settings and specify how I want my Waffles to be displayed

Make sure you're logged into this site, then browse to your Account Settings page. There you can change your password and other setting from the drop down lists provided, such as how many recordings to display and how to sort your recordings.

How do I change my Password?

Make sure you're logged into this site, then browse to Change Password on your "My Account" page and fill in the fields. They should be pretty self-explanatory: next to "Old Password" enter your current password; next to "New Password" enter your new password; then enter your new password again in "Confirm New Password". Left click the purple 'Change' button and you're done!

N.B. To help protect your account, passwords must be at least 5 characters in length.

How do I delete a Waffle?

Just login to this site and browse to your Profile Page, scroll down to "mywaffles" and then click the delete button next to the waffle you want to delete. Be careful to click on the right one though!

How do I edit a Waffle's tags?

Just login to this site and browse to your Profile Page, scroll down to "mywaffles" and then click the "edit tags" button to the right of the waffle you want to add, change or remove tags from. Make the changes you want in the textbox that appears, separating each tag with a comma. You can have a maximum of 10 tags per waffle and 10 characters per tag.

What if I'm not in the UK? Can I call a Wafflebox?

One of the great things about Wafflebox is that you can leave someone a message wherever you are - all you need is a phone. But remember calls may cost a little bit more, check with your phone provider for details.

If I'm calling a friend's Wafflebox, how will they know the message is from me?

Ah, this is one of the cleverest things about Wafflebox. If you've got your own Wafflebox, and have registered the number you're calling from in Allowed Numbers , then when you leave someone a message, your wafflebox nickname will appear next to it in their Wafflebox. If they've added your number to their phonebook, your message will appear with whatever nickname they gave you. If your number isn't registered and your friend hasn't added you to their phonebook, your message will be displayed as from Anonymous. (But if they listen to it, they'll probably know it's you!)

A waffle is showing up as 'Anonymous', but I know it's my friend. How can I set it to show their name instead?

No problem, log in to our site, waltz over to your Phone Book , and then add their name and number. Every time a message is sent from that number (and as long as it's not withheld), the nickname you gave it will appear alongside the message instead of the number.

A waffle is showing up as 'Anonymous', who is it?

It could be from anyone, spooky! Chances are it's a friend of yours who doesn't have a Wafflebox and isn't in your phonebook. Remember that only people who know your wafflebox number can send messages to your wafflebox. We're working on giving you the option for you to block phone numbers that you don't want to receive messages from.

I have an idea on how to improve Wafflebox, want to hear it?

That'd be great! Just pop over to our Feedback Form and fill in the fields, including your email address. Who knows, if your idea is good enough maybe you'll become famous!

How do I change how (or how many) Waffles are displayed in my Wafflebox?

By default, your waffles are displayed with the most recent ones at the top. But there are loads of neat other ways you can display your waffles. Click the column headers above your waffles to sort by different types. If you're not sure what we mean, have a gander at our Using Wafflebox page to get a low-down on the features of your Wafflebox.

Will you spam me?

Absolutely not. We promise to never, ever, ever bug you with promotional offers or advertisements. We won't give your email address out to any third party either.

Why do you want my telephone number?

The only reasons for giving us your phone number are so that you can use it change the welcome message that people hear when they call your Wafflebox, and so that when you ring another person's wafflebox, your username will show up next to the waffle.

Providing us with your phone number is entirely optional, and we'll never ring you on the number you provide. You can even delete a number from your account (and our records) after you've created your welcome message, by going to Allowed Numbers and selecting "delete" next to the number in question. On the flip side, you can add multiple allowed numbers (such as your mobile and landline) from which you can edit your welcome message (up to a maximum of 10 numbers).

N.B. You can't add a number that's already in our database, so make sure you're the only person using that number! Also, your phone number must be a valid, or it won't be accepted.

Why can't I add my number to my allowed numbers list?

The most likely explanations are that you've either already added it (in which case it should appear in the list of allowed numbers), you've entered the number incorrectly (oops!), or you've already reached the maximum 10 allowed numbers (wow you must have a lot of phones!). If you have already got 10 numbers, just delete one existing number to make room for a new one.

What resolution should my screen be running to view your site?

For optimal use, we recommend that you view our site with a screen resolution of no less than 1024 x 768 pixels.

How can I keep my number private when ringing a Wafflebox?

Just dial 141 before the wafflebox number you're calling, and your phone call will be shown as anonymous in the person's Wafflebox.

I've added my wafflebox to my Facebook profile, but I can only see half of it! Help!

To view your Wafflebox clearly, it needs to be moved into a wider area. We're currently working on a slimline Wafflebox, so watch this space! But for now, just drag the blue bar above your Wafflebox onto the right hand side of your profile.

I can't hear my waffles!

Make sure your speakers are turned up (and on), if you still can't hear, then check the audio settings on your computer.

How much does a Wafflebox cost?

It's free!! :)

Why won't it let me rate Waffles?

Firstly, you have to be logged in to rate a waffle. Secondly, you can only rate a waffle through its owner's profile page, so the first thing to check is that you're on the right page. Ratings are displayed on the front page of the site, but you can't rate them there. Be careful when rating waffles, as you can only rate a waffle once, however many times you try!

Have you got an RSS Feed for my Wafflebox?

Yes! Go to your profile, and under the "Wafflecode" section select "RSS".

Why can't I comment on Waffles?

You need to be logged in to comment on a waffle. Once you are, just click "View Comments" beneath a waffle (on the owner of that waffle's profile) and use the text area to write your comment.

Do I have my Wafflebox for life?

Yes, as long as you receive at least one call to your Wafflebox every 90 days. If you don't receive a message to your Wafflebox for 90 days, we reserve the right to take back the number and give it to someone else. If this happens, you can sign up again for a new Wafflebox, but you'll lose your number, and, unfortunately, all the waffles you had with your old one.

Of course it's easy to avoid this nightmare scenario; just leave a quick message for yourself every now and again: practise your French, perfect an impression of your boss, or recite a heart-wrenching soliloquy. It's up to you!
